A birthday story
I came across this post recounting the birth of the author's son, and it's pretty interesting. Especially since it happened at home. I thought Sarah K. would appreciate it. All I want to know is, what's up with the midwife putting the placenta in the freezer!?

That's where placentas GO!!! We have Sage's in the freezer!
:-)
(FTR, lots of folks will plant a placenta with a tree. It sometimes takes a long time to find the time and place for the perfect tree, you dig?)

Oh, and, for what it's worth, many homebirths are just like that, olive oil and all.

Um, I suppose I can see the symbolic statement of planting the placenta with a tree, and I suppose I can see the logic (sort of) of returning nature to nature rather than just flushing it down the drain.
But still, yuck. I don't really want a jar of placenta in my freezer.
I guess that's no stranger to some cultures than keeping dead animals frozen in a box, though... Hmmm.
