The case of Eric Voltz

Email I sent today to Congresswoman Pelosi, Senators Boxer and Feinstein:

American citizen Eric Voltz has been falsely imprisoned by a Nicaraguan court in an incredible display of injustice.

Please review the Statement of Facts here (http://www.friendsofericvolz.com/index.htm), and the video here (http://tinyurl.com/2xr852), and please take immediate action to investigate this matter.

A citizen may die in a foreign prison, wrongfully accused of murder, if we delay.

all haste,
Mark Bult

Eric Voltz is innocent. The judge on the case needs to be looked at.She maded the wrong decision. Why didn't she allow the phone records?? The real killer is at large. We need to look for him.The Americans need to boycott Nicaragua. This is a shame.

Its horrible how Eric's being treated. If he allegedly killed the girl because he was jealous, why didnt they question girlfriends from his past about his jealousy. The real killer is someone from her community who is either jealous of her or despised her for dating an American. The judge is ignorant. If we dont do something quick, Eric's going to die over there in prison.

My heart is breaking to see an American paying the price for politcal reason's rather than the facts of the case. This is reverse discrimination at it's worse. I pray that Eric finds justice in his appeals.

I will keep Eric Voltz and his family in my prayers. I could not pull myself away from the television last night, as I heard all that has happened to this gentleman and his family. The injustice, ignorance, disbelief - need I go on. We need to get this guy out of prison - the question I propose is - What if this was happening to your family ...your son? Boycott is not enough.

I cannot believe Eric Voltz is in Prison ! This is ridiclous. My heart goes out to him and his parents, You could tell Eric is a peaceful easy going guy who wouldn't do such a thing. It's insane that I have never heard of this here in canada and that no one is marching or protecting to get him free. Why?

The real problem here is that these people (including the judge and prosecutor) do not, evidently, have any moral connection to objective truth. They are incapable of feeling any obligation to reality (that which exists independently of their own subjectivity), nor do they know the gratification that comes from making one's understanding conform to reality. Therefore they are hysterically determined to create a reality which satisfies their psychological needs--and if Eric Voltz is to be sacrificed to this, what does that matter?Eric Voltz is a remarkable individual, maintaining his self-control and integrity under these terrifying circumstances. What the Nicaraguan people are doing to Eric Voltz is a crime in its own right. The mother of the victim is quite happy to insist on the guilt of Eric Voltz precisely to the extent to which she subconsciously feels there is no objective basis for accusing him of having murdered her daughter. Those who know Eric is innocent, they enjoy a relationship to truth that none of his accusors know--or even wish to know. Reality be damned.

I too jumped to the same conclusions after seeing the videos. After further research I began to wonder is we are getting the whole story or just the "friends of" edited version. Dont get me wrong I dont wish this on anyone, including the family of the deceased. There are many blogs from Nicas as well telling a far different story including a case in Texas involving the only Nica to commit murder in USA. He was sentenced to death and by all accounts the Nicas are saying Crime=Time could you imagine if they demanded that there Gov come to our country and just take a prisoner? We would ruin them, I can only hope that no one is ever falsely accused anywhere and if this is the case here justice is served and Eric is returned home. As far as boycotting their country they want us there spending money on vacation maybe just not Privatizing their oceans

It's amazing how most commentors here automatically consider Voltz innocent. Has anyone actually delved into the facts of the case? And I'm not talking about the propaganda videos made on the part of the family. I lived in Nicaragua at the time of the trial and I studied the facts very carefully (as did the U.S. Embassy). Voltz was given a fair trial and he was found guilty. The facts are there. Most comments here are emotional and / or racist in nature. Voltz is a killer and his victim's family deserves justice.

He's innocent. There were at least 10 people that saw Eric Volz at the time of the murder. Danglas was the only witness that testified that Eric Volz committed the murder. But Danglas also implicated Llanes, who was the girl's current boyfriend. The prosecution dropped charges against Llanes, which should have discounted Danglas' testimony entirely. Also, Danglas' testimony doesn't make any sense as far as his role in the crime is concerned. In my opinion the judge threw the trial due to a raging hatred toward gringos. Also, if you think about it, it doesn't make any sense. Eric Volz is jealous of his girlfriend, so he HIRES two people to HELP him kill her? That's ridiculous since it's not what a jealous person would do.

Two other gringos, Lemon Groves and Kenneth Kinzel, were brutally murdered in Nicaragua last month. Groves was robbed, raped and had her skull bashed in with a rock while Kinzel was completely dismembered with an electric saw after being shot to death. The motive in both of these murders, just as I'm sure the motive was in Doris Jimenez' murder, was money. The perpetrators did it so they could rob their victims. Nicaragua is not a place I want to visit, and I will probably never go there.

I just watched this story unfold on dateline last night.... and I have to say.. this is the most absurd case I have yet to see. The judge has the nerve to say that the SEVEN people who can back up his alibi were LYING!! I think that judge needs to be revoked from office... he had more proof to back up his story and it should of been a closed book case.. INNOCENT. The rental car people lied.. the family and friends have lied.. they just want to point the finger all because he was an American.. and they ALL need to be ashamed to sit there and allow the real sicko killer to still be out there!

Eric Voltz walked into the court room already "Guilty".
In a Civilized modern justice system you are innocent until proven guilty.

Unindentified blood under nails, red stripes (supposed "claw" marks) on his shoulder, and eye witness testimony of a drunkerd (who cut a deal with the prosecutor) Does Not prove a man's guilt.

The man is innocent. He was the victim of a mistrial and Anti-American hate mongering. He will be in my prayers.

I think Eric is Guilty and should pay to what he did to that poor girl. He is trying to use his intellectual knowledge as a journalist to confuse the Nicaraguan Government and get support from all over the world. Looks like it's not going to help him!!

When I heard about this story maybe about a year ago, the injustice of this case weighed heavily on my thoughts. I hoped to google his name and see that he was free. Its looks like he is still in prison. I think the trianglation of the cell phone towers proves he was inncoent. Its a sad story and I hope he gets out soon.

The time has come to demand that Nicaragua release Eric Voltz or suffer the consequences. Send in a few hundred troops to rescue him and then place sanctions prohibiting doing business with them as well suspend all foriegn aid that we send them. A few large bombs would make the point but I am against war for the most part. The judge should be hanged in town square for stupidity. It's amazing that Georgie boy doesn't do anything about this but he made sure that the saudi arabian rape victum got a pardon from King tut. "FREE ERIC VOLTZ"

The last anonomous message left must be from some ignorate fool. Yes, people from the US expect the same rights as we enjoy in this great country. But as the international community expects the US to live up to universal morals, so should all those countries that are making the demands. This situation is just plain stupid. And for any one to suggest that confining oneself to the borders of the US will be protected from similar acts is ignorant.

Eric, I must confess I only became aware of your situation last night with the airing of a program on your experiences.

However, I'm happy that your physical ordeal has finally come to an end. Take this time to heal your physical and psychological wounds, record your reflections on what you've experienced, and write that book!! I also hope that some Hollywood type will take up your story and bring it to the screen.

I assume that the evidence that you presented (phone records.. etc) are factual and exonerate you, and I it's critical that this evidence be part of your book.

The saddest part, imo, is that the murder of Doris remains unsolved, and unavenged. How her mother could choose political and xenophobic diatribes over the desire to avenge her daughter's death might also be an area you focus upon. Given that you apparently picked up her father on the way from Managua, and were asked to carry Doris' casket at the funeral, it would be interesting to know the details of your relationship with her family.

But as an American, until you receive justice, restitution, and Doris' REAL murderer is apprehended and punished, I will NEVER visit Nicaragua. And any American that invests money in that country's economy is betraying the values of justice. An economic/touristic boycott of Nicaragua is the means by which every American can force that government to deal with their corruption.. For if you can be treated with such injustice, then it's only obvious that Nicaraguans, themselves, are just as vulnerable to such injustices.

All of my best to you in your recovery.

Ron
