Llewtube Carpool
Every week British actor and author Robert Llewellyn (best known as Kryten from “Red Dwarf”) gives someone interesting a lift, and interviews them on the way, recording a video podcast. The guests seem to usually be British entertainment insiders, but others are well-known even to us on this side of “the pond,” such as Patrick Stewart, Dave Gorman, Stephen Fry, and Tony Hawk (and apparently John Hodgeman will be doing one soon). This one’s with John Lloyd (“Blackadder,” “Not! The Nine O’Clock News,” and co-writer with Douglas Adams of The Meaning of Liff [sic]). The conversations a rather inside-y and are probably only interesting to total nerds. Like me. But the concept of conducting an interview on a car ride is simply brilliant and absurdly original in the way only the English can be. Edit: His embed code doesn’t work, so you’ll have to go to his website if you want to watch any of the videos.

ABC 7 I-Team Investigates: Organic Foods
Whole Foods’ “California Blend” organic vegetables are (were?) harvested in China. This investigation is from 2008; I don’t know whether there’s been an update.

New York Times: Tainted Tap Water
Thirty-five years after Congress passed the Safe Drinking Water Act, some regulators and environmentalists say the law is now so out of date that it fails to protect people from the most obvious threats. The NY Times has been reporting on water issues for a long time now in the series Toxic Waters. More:

Thursday Top 5
History of the Internet A good infographic-style history. Slightly lengthy, but really informative and visually compelling. Even I learned stuff I hadn’t known.
Lucas in Love Well this explains a lot.
An Image Was Worth 1,000 Statistical Tables Doctors don’t have a great record when it comes to properly washing their hands. I found this article on ways to change the behavior of doctors fascinating.
Wild Light Very nice nature photography, all from the guy’s back yard in south Michigan. He’s got separate galleries of birds, bees, assorted bugs, ants, and even mosquitos. The bee shots alone are incredibly cool.
Achieve Your Big Goals With Incremental Persistence I’m a real fan of this thinking: Chip away at it. I have tons of little side projects, some of which I’ve been working on for years. Some people roll their eyes and just walk away thinking I’m spreading myself too thin and I’ll never accomplish anything, let alone all of them. I disagree.

Thursday Top 5: Election Special #1
I’ve been pretty quiet this election season, but with less than two weeks to go, it’s time to bring up the dirty word: politics. I’m not foolish enough to think a blog is going to change anyone’s opinion, so most of this week’s politics-themed Top 5 is humor. I do hope, though, to inform San Franciscans a little bit about Prop H, which I didn’t know anything about until recently.
