Abby & Brittany Hensel turn 16
Holy crap talk about a back-seat driver!

Cats have the best damn reflexes. I wish I was a cat.

John Ashcroft “stunned” people think detainees deserve trials
What a disaster this attorney general was.

The Muppets’ musical salute to America
Culture, morality, and patriotism...Muppet style. I’d actually like to see McCain walk onto the floor of the House to this music.

The Polaroid instant camera, as we knew it, is now officially dead. Polaroid pulled the plug on it. For those of us who still like the look of those instant prints, there’s Poladroid, a little application that will turn your digital images or scans into digital Polaroids. Download Poladroid OS X (also coming soon to Windows), or check out the Poladroid Flickr group.

Funk Nog! The Tatum Family Holiday Mix ’08
A late arrival from my friend Mike Tatum.

An entertaining way to browse Flickr tags.

30 minutes of '80s cartoon openings
Wow. The cartoons of the 1980s really were terrible (except Inspector Gadget, he was awesome).

Starting a group on Flickr

I've been researching how various community sites handle their offerings and features for groups, so I decided to make a Flickr group. I'd participated in a couple before, but I'd never made one of my own on Flickr.

It was easy to set up and fairly feature-rich, although I think the discussions feature needs a little work. I did a Flickr search for "Robert Heinlein" and then invited a dozen or so people to join the group and add some of their photos. Within about an hour I had five group members.

Really well done online photo editor that works with your Flickr account, uploaded photos, photos on the web, or pretty much anything.

"Flagpole Sitta" by Harvey Danger, interpreted by the employees of Connected Ventures
Now this looks like a fun place to work.

I really want one of these cat scratchers but there's no way I'm gonna pay $84 for a chunk of corrugated cardboard.

The Forest in the Winter
This is a really interesting (and slightly disturbing) animation of the Little Red Riding Hood story in Russian (I think) with incredible subtitle translations ("Forest is truly blood-hungry and life-jealous, and violence") and even more incredible commercial breaks (in Japanese!).

Giant Steps
This is a really cool Flash animation based on a Coltrane song.

A Band on Fire
Arcade Fire in New York magazine. Includes some pretty cool photos.

The Devil in the White City
I’ve been enjoying this dramatic history about the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago and the associated story of H.H. Holmes, who was perhaps one of the country's first serial killers. Author Erik Larson, like Simon Winchester, proves that historical books don’t have to be snores.

This beta site describes itself as "online photo editing made fun." It's possibly the best online tool I've seen in two years. Really excellent.
