Air America Radio on iTunes and iPhone

March 2010 update: Air America is reportedly going off the air.

October 2008 update: A reader called Mr tells us about FStream (free download), which allows you to listen to Air America on your iPhone (he says you need to update your firmware if you’re using a first generation iPhone). Here’s an FStream review/how-to at Mac360.

May 2008 update: A reader alerted me today in the comments below that Air America is no longer listed in iTunes (I confirmed this by looking myself — I have no idea why it's gone). However, the link to the stream, described in the March 2007 update below, still works.

March 2007 update: Air America has changed the location of their stream, and now if you click on it in iTunes, you'll probably get a "loading" bar forever, like I did.

Per Alan's comment at the end of this thread, you can solve this by selecting "Advanced > Open Stream..." in iTunes and paste this URL into the dialog box: http://aarlive.voxcdn.com/live.m3u (see screenshots below).

You can also just download the .m3u (right-click and save as...) and open it in iTunes.

October 2006 update: Air America is available in iTunes under "Radio > Talk/Spoken Word". In iTunes 7x it'll look like this picture. See Rob's comments at the end of this thread for more info. (Thanks Rob!)

March 2006 update: It appears that the WKIZ playlist file is no longer viable. Air America is apparently now charging for their podcasts (info here, tutorial here), and I haven't been able to find an iTunes stream anymore. There are, however, various radio stations listed on this page where you can still listen to free streams using Windows Media Player or RealPlayer.

Original post: Thanks to bitter-girl (hey Velms, and she has a knitting blog [!] ), I learned that WKIZ radio in Key West, FL, has an iTunes feed of Air America Radio. Finally, I don't have to listen on RealPlayer anymore!

So, to use it, download this .pls file (.pls = playlist), then drag and drop its icon onto your iTunes, and voila, you're listening to the radio.

You rock! Everytime I tried to open AirAm on my Mac, I'd get an Adobe file that did nothing. Now I can listen _and_ cut out Mac-hostile RealOne. Oh, boy!

Update: In case it ever goes away from bitter-girl's website, I've also included the iTunes playlist file on my server (download it, then double-click or drag it into iTunes).

The stream is from Florida's WKIZ, which broadcasts Latin language radio as well. So I guess Air America is only part-time on their stream.

yes, what's the schedule? i've had that radio station playing in iTunes for a while, waiting for AirAmerica to show up and i never hear it (checking mostly during business hours).

the kkjjk website lists WKIZ, but the WKIZ website (http://www.wkizradio.com/) offers little help.

have people actually heard AirAmerica on this station?

WKIZ was broadcasting Air America last time I tuned into them, but that was in December I think. Can't remember what time of the day it was exactly, but it was definitely business hours (Pacific time), since I was at work.

I haven't checked their stream lately.

I'm actually hoping someone will locate a different radio station; one that broadcasts Air America all day and also has an iTunes stream, so we can all dump WKIZ.

I don't know if it's just me, but the stream seems to have died.

Listen Live 56K:
? Windows Media Player stream.
? MP3 player stream (iTunes or Winamp).

The Air America Radio network live stream is available 24/7 on the iTunes Radio. Simply go to "Source" > "Radio" > "Talk/Spoken Word" > "Air America" .

Update! A change was made on iTunes ("Library" instead of "Source") to listen to the Air America Radio network live stream (available 24/7): Simply go to "Library" > "Radio" > "Talk/Spoken Word" > "Air America".

This is an old thread but for people still finding it the MP3 stream from AAR has changed.

It's now:

http://aarlive.voxcdn.com/live.m3u

(via Robert Drummond, AAR Tech. Support)

You can do a Get Info on the AAR selection in iTunes and edit the URL and paste in the address above.

Just found your blog post and want to express my gratitude!

I was just able to get a 1st-generation iPhone cheap. After upgrading the firmware I was able to get a stream tuner from the app store and the URL in your post works with it --- excellent!

If you have an iPhone look for the FREE app called "FStream" and use the URL from this blog. Amazing... it buffers for about ONE second and then VOILA! You're listening to AAR.
